A new gay club in Lodo is claiming to be the first gay club in Lodo. Not so fast Mr. Bill Ward, owner of the new gay club called Below. From the website it must be a lesbian bar? Huh? I don’t get it.

Anyway, back in the day and were talking 1977, there was a bar at 16th and Lawrence called Doc Weed’s and was owned by Thom Salturelli. I came out to my cousin in this venue. “Toppa! There’s no women in here!”

Now the place is Willie G’s Seafood Restaurant.

All this stems from an article in the Denver Post dated April 30, 2010. I won’t mention the reporter’s name, but it just goes to show you; a little research can make one look like they at least fucking tried.
